Concerto DSCH, Alexei Ratmansky's ingenious and richly-textured second original ballet for the Company, is choreographed on a score that Dmitri Shostakovich composed as a gift for his son's 19th birthday. The ballet's title refers to a musical motif used by Shostakovich to represent himself, with four notes that, when written in German notation, stand in for his initials in the German spelling (D. Sch.).
This performance from October 5, 2018 features Principal Dancers Ashley Bouder, Sara Mearns, Tyler Angle, and Gonzalo Garcia along with former Principal Dancer Joaquin de Luz, along with pianist Susan Walters and the New York City Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Andrews Sill.
